The Harmony of the Verses
Following the descent and settlement of Adam and Eve on earth, along with the descent of Satan and the establishment of enmity between him and humanity, the verses address the necessity of revelation and religion and the implications of humankind’s response to divine guidance. Given that humans have an adversary like Satan, they cannot achieve their ultimate goal without guidance, which comes through revelation (external guidance) and reason (internal guidance).
The two verses discussed emphasize the command for all to descend to the earth. They hint at the beginning of the sharīʿa (divine law), acknowledge the acceptance of guidance by some individuals, and highlight the removal of fear and sorrow from those who follow it. Conversely, they underscore the rejection of guidance by others and the severe punishment awaiting the disobedient.
The verses state: “We said, ‘Descend from it, all of you! Then whenever guidance comes to you from Me, whoever follows it—there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.’ And those who disbelieved in God’s guidance and denied His signs are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally.”
