Special Acceptance and Growth
God has a natural growth (inbāt takwīnī) for everyone: “God made you grow from the earth, with a [vegetable] growth. Then He makes you return to it, and He will bring you forth [without fail]”.(69) However, Mary’s growth “and made her grow up in a worthy fashion” which is in response to “I commend her”,(70) is a special growth, because it is not about growth from the earth, but rather about “good growth”; like “The good land—its vegetation comes out by the permission of its Lord”.(71) A pure and clean person grows with divine care in suitable conditions.
From the fact that the words “acceptance” (qabūl) and “growth” (nabāt) are described as “good” (ḥasan), it becomes clear that both the acceptance of Mary (a.s.) for serving the sacred house and her growth and upbringing were both special.
Note: The phrase “with a gracious acceptance” is grammatically an indirect object, but semantically it is an absolute object of manner (mafʿūl muṭlaq nawʿī). The presence of the preposition “with” (bāʾ), when the expression “gracious acceptance” would have been sufficient, indicates the importance of this acceptance.(72)
