The Material and Spiritual Rewards of the Truthful
After God gathers the prophets in the Resurrection and addresses Jesus among them, asking him questions and receiving his answers, He says that today is a day when the truthfulness (ṣidq) of the truthful in this world benefits them: “This day truthfulness shall benefit the truthful” (hādhā yawm yanfaʿu l-ṣādiqīna ṣidquhum).
Their divine benefit and reward consists of gardens beneath whose trees rivers flow, and they will abide therein forever: “For them there will be gardens with streams running in them, to remain in them forever” (lahum jannāt tajrī min taḥtihā l-anhār khālidīna fīhā abadan). This reward is of the type of bodily and sensual pleasures in which many people share at this stage. Higher than the sensible Paradise and sensual and material pleasures is the station of divine pleasure (riḍwān): “Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him. That is the great success.” Although sensible Paradise is success (fawz), the station of divine pleasure is “great success” (fawz ʿaẓīm). Considering the station of divine pleasure as great success is a sign of its tremendous importance.
