Selected Exegesis
Jesus (ʿĪsā), son of Mary, like other messengers, had no position other than messengership (risāla) and is a contingent and perishable being. Just as he believed in divine lordship (rubūbiyyat ilāhī) and called to it, his mother also confirmed the lordship of the Truth and divine revelation (waḥy ilāhī). Jesus and his mother both needed nourishment, while God is independent of everything.
Among the characteristics of the Qur’an is establishing proof (iqāmat burhān) in a simple manner for the understanding of the masses; but Christians turn away from these proofs.
