Harmony of the Verses

This verse is connected to “When the wife of ʿImrān”,(94) and both verses explain the selection of the family of ʿImrān, which is contained in “Indeed God chose Adam…”(95).(96) The correlation between the story of John (a.s.) and Jesus (a.s.) is that both were among the chosen ones of the family of ʿImrān, and both had extraordinary births. John (a.s.) was born to an elderly father and a barren mother, while Jesus (a.s.) was born without a father.

The purpose of relating the story of Jesus’s (a.s.) birth is to refute those Christians who considered him to be God or His son.(97)
