Prophethood at Birth
From Yazīd al-Kināsī who said: I asked Abū Jaʿfar (a.s.), “Was Jesus son of Mary a proof of God for the people of his time when he spoke in the cradle?” He (a.s.) said: “He was on that day a prophet and proof of God, though not a messenger. Have you not heard his words when he said: “Indeed I am a servant of God! He has given me the Book and made me a prophet”“(336)
Note: The meaning of not being a messenger is that at that time he was not commanded to convey religious rulings and propagate them, even though he was a prophet aware of the Torah and following it.(337)
