Direct or Indirect Addressee

The original creation of Jesus (a.s.) was miraculous, just as there were other miracles in the way he was raised. Regarding his original creation, when the good news of Jesus (a.s.) reached Mary (a.s.), she said: “My Lord, how shall I have a child seeing that no human has ever touched me?’ He said, ’So it is that God creates whatever He wishes” (3:47). This question and answer does not necessarily mean that God’s speech with Mary (a.s.) was direct. Apparently, the speaker of “So it is that God creates whatever He wishes” was an angel who explained the manner of becoming a mother on behalf of God.(341)

In direct speech, the addressee can be either a prophet or a non-prophet. If the dialogue is within the realm of religious law, the direct or indirect addressee is the Prophet (s.a.w.); otherwise, the addressee need not necessarily be a prophet, although it must be someone capable of receiving direct speech.
