The Relationship between Christ’s Creation and the Verses of Challenge
The restriction of the bird’s creation to God’s permission prevents criticism by idolaters, for God says: “Have they set up for Allah partners who have created like His creation, so that the creations seemed confusable to them? Say, ‘Allah is the creator of all things, and He is the One, the All-paramount’.”(396) “Say, ’Tell me about what you invoke besides Allah. Show me what they have created of the earth’.”(397)
If someone wishes to criticize Christ (a.s.) who was able to create a bird, they will first receive their answer from the verse under discussion and similar verses, which is that the focus of the verses of challenge is independent creation, while Christ’s (a.s.) creation was by God’s permission and not independent, and this very compliance with divine command was his (a.s.) special worship towards the divine sacred realm.(398)
