The Origin of Adam and Eve and the Comparison of Jesus to Adam
In this verse, using the best form of argumentation (jadal aḥsan), it is said to those who believed in the divinity of Jesus (a.s.) or in his being the son of God, or those who spoke of the trinity, that if these exaggerations are because Jesus (a.s.) had no father, then Adam (a.s.) had neither father nor mother. Thus, this best form of argumentation removes from the Christians their excuse for claiming divinity, trinity, or divine sonship for Jesus (a.s.).
This form of reasoning indicates that Adam and Eve (a.s.) were not born from previous humans who lacked intellectual development and responsibility, otherwise the argument against Christians would not have been complete. For if Adam (a.s.) had been born from parents, comparing Jesus (a.s.) to him would have been meaningless. Therefore, this verse strongly indicates that Adam (a.s.) was not anyone’s child. If traditions suggest that before this world and Adam there was another world and Adam, this does not contradict the aforementioned point, because it is possible that numerous generations came and became extinct, but the present lineage ends with Adam and Eve (a.s.). The age of the world cannot be determined based on archaeological findings and the like, although there are many signs of its antiquity, and only God knows the antiquity of the universe.
