Selected Exegesis

This verse, which begins the story of the mubāhala (“mutual imprecation”), first emphatically and affirmatively establishes that all truth is from God, who is absolute truth and the source of all truth. Then, based on this exclusivity, it conveys a prescriptive prohibition to the Prophet (s.a.w.) and the Muslim community to have absolute certainty that truth is with them. This emphasis is because the important event of mubāhala will soon occur, and these two statements - affirmative and negative - eliminate any doubt about its legitimacy.

According to this verse, the story of Jesus (a.s.) is from God and therefore true, and one should not harbor any doubt (mirya) about it.

The final phrase of the verse, in addressing the Prophet (s.a.w.) who by divine providence possesses complete infallibility, means that you have a connection with God, and the link between you and Him is God’s manifestation in knowledge and action, which is from Him and is truth, so do not be among those who doubt.
