The Lack of Contradiction Between Divine Threat and Prophetic Infallibility

Since Jesus Christ was among those making this request to God and personally undertook to convey it on everyone’s behalf, he, like the others, was the addressee of the threat. This might provide grounds for doubt. Therefore, it can be said: This threat does not contradict the infallibility (ʿiṣma) of Jesus Christ, just as God issued a severe threat regarding the Noble Prophet himself and said: “Had he faked any sayings in Our name, We would have surely seized him by the right hand and then cut off his aorta, and none of you could have held Us off from him” (69:44-47) Or regarding the angels He said: “Should any of them say, ‘I am a god besides Him,’ We will requite him with Hell.” (273)
