Selected Exegesis

The history of the Kaaba extends back to times long before the prophethood of Abraham, the Friend of God. Thus, he was not its original founder. Rather, God Almighty revealed to him the former location of the Kaaba and provided the plan for its reconstruction so that he could restore it.

Reconstructing the Kaaba was an act of worship, performed under the command and guidance of God Almighty. Throughout the building process, Abraham and his son Ishmael continuously murmured and supplicated, repeating the melodic phrase: “Our Lord, accept [this] from us.” The Kaaba was thus raised upon this invocation, embodying the pure sincerity of the architect and his assistant. By choosing the term “accept” (taqabbal) over “receive” (qabūl), they sought a special divine favor. In response, as a mark of full acceptance of this sincere act, God designated the reconstructed Kaaba as His own house, affirming its title as the “House of God” as it had been known before.
