Selected Exegesis
The Glorious God, addressing the People of the Book and refuting the Jews or Christians who considered Jacob to be of their faith and claimed that he advised his children to follow Judaism or Christianity at the time of his death, says: You were not present at the time of Jacob’s testament to his children and did not witness that scene and what transpired between them.
Jacob, fearing the dangers of idol worship, which was the prevalent thought and dominant religion in ancient Egypt, said to his children: “Whom will you worship after me?” They replied: “We will worship your God and the God of your forefathers, who is the one and only deity for all, and Islam is our firm attribute.” Thus, in that scene, there was only talk of encouragement and recommendation to Islam, not Judaism or Christianity.
