Discussion of the Narrations
1) The Necessity of Attaining Faith Similar to the Faith of the Imams
It is narrated from Abū Jaʿfar regarding the words of the Almighty: “Say, ‘We have believed in God and what has been revealed to us’” (590). He said:
“This refers to ʿAlī, Fāṭima, al-Ḥasan, and al-Ḥusayn, and it continued after them in the Imams. Then God’s words return to the people, saying: ‘So if they believe’ meaning the people ‘as you have believed’ meaning ʿAlī, Fāṭima, al-Ḥasan, al-Ḥusayn, and the Imams ‘then they have been guided; but if they turn away, they are only in dissension’ meaning the people.” (591)
Note: This narration was mentioned in the discussion of the narrations of the previous verse; refer to its conclusion.
2) The Disbelief of the People of Dissension
It is narrated from al-Ṣādiq (a.s.) [regarding the words of the Almighty: “they are only in dissension”] that he said: “It means in disbelief.” (592)
Note: This tradition refers to the theological aspect of turning away from religion, rejecting Islam, and disobeying the way of the prophets. However, the jurisprudential, legal, political, or social aspects of dissension and enmity are addressed by other evidence, some of which are found in the Qur’an and some in narrations, and history also confirms them.
