Coherence of Verses
The People of the Book, especially the Jews, not only considered their lineage to Abraham as a source of pride and believed themselves to be a superior race and people in this world based on this, but they also had the delusion that their lineage would be a cause for their salvation in the hereafter. They thought that the good deeds, virtues, and perfections of their ancestors would lead to the forgiveness of their own impurities and sins.
This verse is a response to such an unfounded delusion, and its message is that every person or nation is responsible for their own actions, and the results of the good and bad deeds of each individual and society belong to themselves.
Another possibility regarding the coherence and connection of this verse with the previous verses is that it is a second response to the claim of both Jews and Christians who considered Abraham and his children, especially Jacob, to be of their own faith. The Jews claimed they were Jewish, and the Christians claimed they were Christian, and each claimed that their religion was recommended by these great figures. God Almighty presents two responses to this claim, as if saying: Firstly, Abraham and his children were Muslims, people of monotheism and submission, neither Jewish nor Christian, and their recommendation was for monotheism and submission. Secondly, even if it were so, what benefit would it bring you? Being Jewish or Christian and the good deeds of those pure ancestors do not cause salvation for the children, just as their bad deeds do not bring responsibility to the children.
