Detailed Exegesis

Am: Some exegetes consider the word (am) to be definitely disconnected, and therefore have not proposed the possibility of it being connected. Some, like Zamakhsharī, have mentioned the possibility of it being connected, with a preference for disconnection(363). Some have considered Zamakhsharī’s statement, which prefers connection with the omission of an equivalent, as less likely because the omission of an equivalent requires evidence. They have counted three well-known opinions regarding “am”: one is disconnection meaning “bal” and “hamza”, another is digression meaning only “bal”, and the third is connection meaning “hamza(364).

What seems to be the case is the disconnection as presented.
